A sport from 'The President' and raised in Boskoop, Holland. Discovered in 1983. A plant that has not fully stabilised. I have selected four clones, one reverting back to 'The President' but stronger and more vigorous in habit. The general description of this unusual flower is as follows: six to eight outer tepals of a deep navy blue forming a full flower. The inner tepals are either blue or reddish purple blue in colour, very narrow in form, producing a central tuft of many tepals which remain when the outer tepals have fallen away. They have white tips to the points of the tepals, giving a spiky appearance. The early flowers are up to 15cm (6in) across and are generally more fully double than the later flowers. It flowers over a long period and is always double or semi-double when stable. Suitable as a cut flower. Ideal for the small garden or for container culture.
