Guernsey Clematis Nursery

Guernsey Approved Clematis

The following varieties are suitable for the garden.  They are reliable, easy to grow and multi-blooming, usually over a long period.

The Guernsey Clematis Nursery has bred and introduced these varieties over a few years.  They have proved to be a good addition to any garden.

Edda™ Evipo074 (N)

A very good plant for growing in pots or containers for the patio or deck garden due to its compact free flowering habit.
Each flower has six but sometimes up to ten sepals, giving it almost a semi double appearance.
The central sepals are usually shorter and paler in colour, the outer sepals being purple with a darker reddish purple central bar. All have pointed tips.
The plant is repeat flowering from late Spring until early Autumn

Due to its compact habit it is well suited for the smaller garden or town garden, growing in pots or in the garden.
Its colour allows it to blend with any other garden plants and it will show up well with greys, variegated and purple foliaged shrubs looking splendid with blue ceanothus for instance.

Flowering late spring to early autumn
Zone 4-9 (USA)
Height 3 - 4ft (100 - 120cm)
Pruning Hard reduce all stems to 6 inches (15cm ) each Spring

Planting Instructions

Clematis grown in containers are a beautiful way to add height to a patio or courtyard garden. Choose a container 18" (45cm) approx. diameter for a single clematis plant plus support. For larger containers consider planting two or more plants per container. When choosing a container, Terracotta or wood are the best materials.

Alternatively, choose a host plant and dig a hole about 18 inches (45cm) deep.

  1.  Bury the clematis root crown 2.5" (5cm) below soil surface.
  2. Loosen out the clematis roots prior to planting.
  3. Use loam based compost such as John Innes No. 3 or well-rotted garden compost.
  4. To aid drainage provide a layer of small stones or pea gravel at the bottom of the hole/container.
  5. Finally, plant low growing plants at the base of the clematis to provide shade for the roots.
